Consolidation in the asset management industry is coming off of near historic highs. In 2018, asset and wealth management deal value increased 72% year-over-year, and the 140 publicly announced Mergers and Acquisitions were a 5% volume increase over 2017, according to PWC.
This trend is set to continue as asset managers navigate a web of complex drivers that are structurally shifting the industry. While achieving operational excellence is almost never the driver for consolidation, it is the foundation that makes many other strategic objectives possible. Effectively consolidating operations requires executive leadership’s prioritization and consideration across a number of areas.
